I guess I just wanted to write down what I’ve been thinking about all afternoon/evening. Marathons are really incredible events. I don’t know if you have ever attended one or maybe you’ve run one. Either way, they are absolutely an amazing triumphant beacon of strength and endurance. Watching people cross the finish line at the Boston Marathon is perhaps one of the most stirring and joyous things I have ever witnessed. To see these heroes, after running twenty six miles (surely some about to complete their first marathon) surrounded by cheering loved ones suddenly met with horrific violence makes me sick.

Running is a safe space.

If ever there was an attack on the human spirit, it was today.

I don't really have much more to say than what's already been said.

I’ve lost 16.7 pounds since January 1st and I am thrilled about it. Keeping it up! Running a 10 mile race tomorrow with lots of hills. Supposed to be a gorgeous morning, to boot! I started moisturizing with sunflower seed oil a few weeks ago. Three bucks for 12 ounces and clear skin, y’all! You should try it.

Enough self-indulgence for now.

I registered for a marathon! Ahhhh! It is one of my resolutions for 2013. And I like to stick to those. So I’m gonna. My knees already hurt but, you know what? Bodies are pretty fucking cool and strong and if I actually work at this thing I have a feeling I will probably be just fine. Yeeeee!

And, not so secretly, I’ve always wanted one of those douchey ‘26.2’ stickers. I wouldn’t actually put it on my car, but, you know, just to have the option…

On May 10th I will have been here for a year. There’s been a lot of up and down this whole time and all of that stems from my inability to not plan-plan-plan every minute of everyday. I don’t know why I do this but I do. I am constantly thinking in hypotheticals and that’s no way to live. It’s shitty. It makes me feel ungrateful and entitled. And I know that by doing this I miss out on the awesome people and things going on around me.

The point I’m trying to make is that this weekend was fantastic.

It’s one thing to “put yourself out there” and meet new people and be outgoing and be the go-getter. It’s another thing to have your efforts reciprocated. I got choked up on the phone with my mom today because this weekend I didn’t have to be the guy to reach out to people. I had friends ask me what my plans were. It’s such a weird space to exist in, the post-collegiate universe. Hundreds of miles from my family and friends and safety net. I don’t have the convenience of “repeated unplanned interaction” as often as I used to!

I think it’s easy to feel like I’m missing out on things, especially when I see my life play out before me and it includes so much alone time (more alone time than I’d like, I think). You see your friends at home moving on and having fun with new people and without you. However, when a new someone reaches out to you, you forget that really lonely space.

I really felt at home today.
