Robin Pecknold (of Fleet Foxes) :: Thirteen (Big Star cover)
Last night, Robin Pecknold opened for Joanna Newsom at Mercy Lounge in Nashville. The whole set was just him and his guitar in front of a very close crowd in a pretty intimate setting. I mean, there were little cafe tables, that sort of thing.
My friend Stephen recorded this on his iPhone, along with the rest of the set. I just edited this song out of it. When this song began, someone behind me remarked, “Oh, too soon!” But from what I could tell, the rest of the crowd had no idea what this song was or why he chose to cover it. Before moving on to one of his original songs, Pecknold remarked, “This is as close to Memphis as we’re gonna get on this tour, so I figured I might as well. I’m sure, being in Tennessee, you guys are really tired of Big Star stuff right now.”
Someone thought it would be a good idea to make an “Atlas Shrugged” movie. What’s that, Alan Greenspan? Your decision to manage the United States’ economy in accordance with the principals of Objectivism is largely responsible for our current economic shitshow?
